LUISS DataLab and FIEG

Countering the spread of disinformation, especially among the most vulnerable, and improving the quality and reliability of Italian journalism via an AI-based platform

The spread of disinformation causes declining public trust in institutions, incites violence, and poses a significant threat to democracy.

Together, LUISS DataLab and FIEG are rebuilding this trust by developing an AI-based online platform capable of analysing emerging sentiments and patterns of disinformation narratives.

With the help of Google.org Fellows, LUISS DataLab and FIEG will develop a machine learning model, search engines, and an accessible user interface for journalists to analyse web content across platforms, and help millions of Italian citizens to focus on quality information from trusted sources.

This project aims to support an estimated 10,000 journalists across 400 newsrooms - with a particular focus on upskilling those from underserved communities - thus fostering greater collaboration amongst stakeholders, improving content reliability, and restoring public confidence in the Italian media ecosystem.
